This role offers you the opportunity to showcase your MIG welding skills -- specifically on aluminum truck tanks and exteriors -- to launch a long-term career with a growing company. In addition, we'll add to your skill-set by teaching you brakes, lights and tire maintenance and repairs, if you don't already have those skills. Your primary responsibility will be welding, but as time allows and workflow demands, you'll take on Technician I responsibilities! The Requirements

To be a good fit for this opportunity you should have:
  • A high school education or equivalency (GED)
  • 5+ years of experience as a welder, preferably working with aluminum Quick question for you - click here
  • Skill and experience in MIG welding  Quick question for you - click here
  • The ability to interpret shop instructions drawings and templates
  • Your own set of tools 1/2 " and smaller (Bulkmatic will supply specialty and large tools)
  • The ability to pass a drug screen and background check
  • A valid, unrestricted driver's license
  • A commercial driver's license (CDL) or the ability to obtain one
Preferred but not required:
  • Experience repairing trailers is highly preferred
  • Certified welder or technology school graduate with a concentration in welding is a plus
  • Experience performing basic truck maintenance -- brakes, lights and tires -- is preferred
You can expect to work a standard, Monday through Friday day-shift schedule, but should have the flexibility and willingness to work overtime and other shifts as needed. 

Please note, if you are invited for an in-person interview you will be asked to demonstrate your skill by using a MIG Welder machine to lay a flat, vertical and overhead weld on aluminum.
 

The Role

Reporting to the Shop Manager, you will be responsible for inspecting and repairing aluminum tankers and dry bulk trailers. 90% of your time will be spent welding using a MIG Welder, with the remaining 10% spent performing basic truck maintenance on brakes, lights and tires. Quick question for you - click here  We expect that you’ll already be an experienced, expert welder, but we’ll train you on the mechanical duties. Bulkmatic has a strong training program in place and you’ll work with an experienced team, including your supervisor who has more than 30 years of experience.
 
Specifically, you will:
  • Lay welds on the interior and exterior of tanks and trailers 
  • Perform DOT brake inspections and maintenance on air brakes  
  • Inspect, repair and change lights and tires  
  • Know how to operate a torque wrench
  • Safely operate shop supplied heavy duty tool 
  • Safely drive company-owned equipment
Additionally, you may need to drive the tractors and trailers in and out of the shop or through facility parking lot.

You’ll work at our prime Chicago Heights location. It’s a clean, well-run shop with a fueling station, set on 4 acres. Currently there’s a skilled three-person team maintaining the fleet, but demand is growing and we expect to add another mechanic in short-order. We think you’ll be impressed with the quality of the location.
